The Big Ticket: Senior & Junior Girls Day 3

Wow, we can't believe it's already Day 3 of The Big Ticket tournament! As always, here are your recaps from throughout the day--we'll be updating this article as the scores come in, so keep it locked here for all the excitement on the girl's side.


Junior Girls


Abbotsford Panthers vs. St. John Brebeuf Bears

Both teams gave it their absolute all in the first game of the day, but da Bears had a bit more gusto on the court this morning. They beat the Panthers with a final score of 29-27.


Brooksword Bobcats vs. Yale Lions

The Lions roared into action this game against the Bobcats, eventually defeating Brookswood 55-28.


Walnut Grove Gators vs. Seaquam Seahawks

Hosting school Walnut Grove saw nothing but Ws on Day 3. With Munami Ushijima claiming her first Player of the Game at Big Ticket, the Walnut Grove Gators defeated the Seaquam Seahawks 48-27.


Terry Fox Ravens vs. MEI Eagles

In the final game of the day at Walnut Grove, the Terry Fox Ravens played against the MEI Eagles. It was a battle of the birds! But the undefeated Ravens clawed just a bit harder than the Eagles to take the win 56-26. Both teams advance to the Semis at SFU on Friday!

Panorama Ridge Thunder vs. Earl Marriott Mariners

Another hosting school came in with a big win for the first game of the day! The Thunder boomed on the court, though the score teetered between sides throughout the game. Despite a 7-0 run by Earl Marriott, Panorama Ridge held on for a 36-33 win. Taylor San Antonio was named POG.


McMath Wildcats vs. Seycove Seyhawks

In the second game of the day, the Wildcats brought out the clamps against the Seyhawks. The game saw a lot of back-and-forth play, with both teams stealing the lead from each other. With just 30 seconds to go, the score was tied at 48 until McMath scored a crucial layup to ultimately win the game with 51 points. Kendall Downie took home her first POG honours.


Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers vs. Fleetwood Park Dragons

The Dragons played with a whole lot of fire on Day 3 of The Big Ticket. With their second win in a row, they defeated Tweedsmuir 41-23, naming Shubh Athwal the Player of the Game with 10 points for Fleetwood.


Argyle Pipers vs. Riverside Rapids

In the last game of the day at Panorama Ridge, the junior Rapids played with a splash! Though Argyle fought a tough battle, Riverside claimed their final win at the hosting school 50-34. Congrats to Rapids' Venica D. on her first POG of the tournament.

Collingwood Cavaliers vs. St. John Brebeuf Bears

McNair Marlins vs. Burnaby South Rebels

Burnaby South came out with a purpose to win in today's first game of the day at Riverside. With a whole lot of ball movement and structured passing, the girls climbed...and climbed on the scoreboard. They put up an insane 78 points to McNair's 14. POG honours went to Dilara Altur who scored 16 points for the Rebels.


Argyle Pipers vs. Handsworth Royals

Pipers hit the scoreboard first with a nice little layup, but the duration of the first half went in favour of the Royals. They led 30-13 heading into the second. Both teams battled hard in the paint, but Handsworth came out on top. The final score being 50-28 over Argyle. Sydney Fieldgate-Feenie was named Player of the Game.


Seycove Seyhawks vs. Whistler Storm

Whistler was the first to 'storm' the scoreboard with points, putting up an easy layup early on in the game. The Storm continued to climb on the scoreboard, but Seycove was never too far behind, staying within just a few points at any given moment throughout the first half Heading into the second, Whistler led just 23-18. The rest of the game was crazy close and even tied up at 31 at the beginning of the last quarter. Despite an absolute battle, the Seycove Seyhawks came back to take a huge win! They defeated the Whistler Storm 49-43.


Riverside Rapids vs. Walnut Grove

Both Riverside and Walnut Grove have been undefeated thus far in The Big Ticket tournament, so tonight was bound to be something special on the court. The first quarter saw a couple crucial 3s from the Rapids, with a beauty trey from Jessica Parker to beat the buzzer at the end of the first quarter. Riverside led 21-20.


In Gator form, though, Grove picked it up in the second quarter and completely dominated on offence and defence. They took an outstanding 46-25 lead heading into the second half, which also proved to go extremely in their favour.


The fourth quarter saw incredible ball movement by the Rapids, who came to within just 6 points of the Gators with only two minutes to go. Despite an insane effort by Riverside, they were unable to overcome the point deficit. Walnut Grove defeated them 81-70.


Both teams will advance to the Semis at Simon Fraser University.
