Seycove Seyhawks made it rain against the Charles Hays Rainmakers


The Rainmakers got off to an early 11-2 lead, until the Seyhawks took a timeout to settle down and make their run to close the gap to 15-13. The Rainmakers ended the quarter with a 19-16 lead.


The 2nd quarter was a back and forth affair between the two closely matched and uptempo squads. The 3 ball again helping the Seyhawks while the Rainmakers used their ball movement and attack dribble efficiently. The Seyhawks tied the game at 27-27 under the 6 minutes mark. The teams traded the lead a few times during the entire quarter, with leads not greater than 3.The Seyhawks head into halftime with a 39-38 lead.


The Seyhawks came out in the 3rd quarter hitting multiple 3’s to go up 50-42, and forcing the Rainmakers to their 1st timeout of the 2nd half, midway through the quarter. The Rainmakers didn’t have an answer for the hot shooting of their opponent but relied on their defense to keep the game close. Seyhawks lead 61-47 towards the end of the 3rd, and seemed to get whatever they wanted on the offensive end, including multiple second chance opportunities by putting pressure on the offensive boards.


The Seyhawks started the 4th quarter knocking down back to back 3’s and a layup in under a minute before the Rainmakers responder. The lead was now 76-55, which was the largest lead of the game. The Rainmakers came out of their timeout and responded with a 9-0 run and a perfect 28 seconds defensive possession, to make it 64-76. What was a 21 point lead was cut to 12, with under 5 minutes to play. The Rainmakers kept making it rain and continued their run, making it a 69-76 game, before the Seyhawks took their 2nd timeout, with 3:30 left to Poland and a loud crowd. Seyhawks responded after their timeout to go up 80-69 before the Rainmakers took their 2nd timeout. With under 2 minutes, key big man Liam McChestney fouled out for the Rainmakers while down 82-75. After a 5 seconds out of bounds violation but the Rainmakers, they started fouling but the Seyhawks were able to hit all their free throws and maintain their lead, leading to a final score of 91-80.


Player of the game for the Seyhawks #25 Dylon Mathews finished with 29pts, 10rebs, and 5/9 for behind the arc. Ross finished with 22pts & 11rebs. For the Rainmakers, McChestney finished with 24pts, 10rebs, & 3asts, and Leighton finished with 23pts, 12rebs, 4ast and 3 blocks.
