#RoadToNationals: Manitoba Magic

The Manitoba Magic will be making their debut at bballnationals in 2018. One of the top club teams from Manitoba, they will be looking to make their mark at the national tournament.

"The Manitoba Magic Basketball Club is a not-for-profit youth organization that was established in 2002 by the Blanca family” said manager Lisa Pyne. “It started with one boys team of mixed ages and they competed at the local level in tournaments and in leagues. Every year the organization has grown, to the point where we now offer both boys and girls teams for all grade levels [and] our organization currently has nine Magic teams.”

Their U17 Magic team — a team that will be attending bballnationals — have been successful in previous tournaments they’ve attended. They were provincial champions at the Volvo of Edmonton Hoops Showcase last year, and were club provincial champions in both 2016 and 2015 as well.

For Pyne and the Manitoba Magic, Bballnationals give her team a chance “to play and be seen on a national stage.” The competition that will be at the tournament was also a big reason why they will be attending.

“Our girls team is one of the most successful to come out of the Magic organization” she explained. “So we always look forward to playing good competitive teams.”

Anna Pyne, Catherine Marquez, and Gracie Batongbakal are some of the players to watch for the Magic. Their tournament starts August 2nd, when the girls bracket officially gets underway. Spots are still available in both the boys and girls tournament and across all age levels.
