#RepYourRegion: Junior Vikes ready to make waves at BballNationals.
Updated: Jul 2, 2019

Just across the water on Vancouver Island, the Junior Vikes club basketball program is in their first year of existence but is already making waves in the basketball community. The club currently fields a U12, U13, U14 and two U17 teams. They’re run by Dani Sinclair, the head coach of the UVic women’s basketball team and feature the best of the best from the Island.
“We have had the VK teams over to Victoria and seen them play” said Sinclair on the team’s decision to participate in Bballnationals. “They are a top notch, well-run program and we have heard great things from other clubs who played at Nationals the last two years.”
Sinclair and the various teams are excited to compete against a diverse field once the tournament rolls around.

“We are looking forward to playing against some of the best competition across the country,” she explained. “It will be a good test for our group in its first year together. We are also looking forward to all of the off-court perks that come with the tournament — athletes-banquet, media, etc.”
The exposure that a national club tournament has, and everything that entails, was a big selling point for the program.
“We think it’s great to have more athletes exposed to playing against top programs and players across the country” explained Sinclair. “Playing for your province is a great thing, as is playing for your city/club, and this tournament provides the opportunity to do so.”
The girls tournament starts July 29th at the Langley Events Centre. Spots are still available, and you can register by visiting their website.
