Oak Bay sails into Day 2 after Mount Baker Blowout

In the final match-up of the day, the Mount Baker Wild had a dangerous mountain to climb against their opponent, the Oak Bay Bays.
The Bays went for an incredible 29-0 run in the first quarter. That’s right. The Wild finally sunk a 3 with two minutes remaining before the second.
Star guard Diego Maffia came out strong. He scored a quick 7 points for his team before the end of the quarter. In Maffia’s usual unselfish manner, he leaned on his teammates and insured they were all apart of the success on the scoreboard.
After just 10 minutes of play, Oak Bay led 35-5.
To begin the second quarter, the Bays sat Maffia, giving some of the other players a shot continue the team’s success—which they were comfortably able to do.
Though the Wild fought hard in the key, they were only able to put up 6 more points. The Bays added another 24.
Heading into the final half, Oak Bay led 59-11.
In the third, the Bays rotated their bench heavily and played with the majority of their athletes that usually don’t see much time on the court. This rotation gave the Wild a slight momentum boost, going up 9 points before the midway mark.
Oak Bays’ Andrew Pittman injured himself shortly after the Wild’s push with what looked to be an ankle roll. He would not return for the duration of the game.

By the end of the third, the Bays led 72-24.
For the final quarter, Oak Bay played a humble game with ease over the Wild. Mount Baker never quit, though. They gave it their absolute all right up until the buzzer.
The 1st place Oak Bay Bays dominated on the court, defeating the Mount Baker Wild 89-36.
Riley Cronk was named player of the game with 14 points. He was happy with tonight’s win and looks forward to Day 2.
“It feels good. Just moving onto the next game and trying to get some big W’s with the boys,” he said. “We just went through the motions, tried to get everyone some touches and get everyone hot going into the rest of the tournament.”
Oak Bay will be playing the Burnaby South Rebels in their second matchup of Provincials—keep it locked here for all of your Day 2 previews.
