Langley Christian Lightning bring the thunder in first round of provincials
Updated: Mar 1, 2018

It was a battle of the elements this morning with the Langley Christian Lightning
matching up against the Whistler Storm.
Both teams came out booming in the first two quarters, but it was the Lightning who
led 33-23 at the half.
The second half was a nail biter, with a back-and-forth game on the scoreboard.
Both teams kept it close, with Langley leading by only 2 points at the end of the third
quarter. The Lightning hit a 3 right as the buzzer went; however, the points did
not translate onto the scoreboard as the shot was supposedly too late.
The Lightning defended well in the fourth and were able to hit nearly all of their foul
shots to seal the game.
Whistler’s JJ Deane (#4) hit clutch threes for the Storm, but ultimately Langley was
able to stay on top and win the game 59-53.
Head coach Dani Gardner was proud of her girl’s first win, especially her daughter
Makenna (# 30), who claimed POG honours for the team.
“The first half she shot the ball extremely well for us, [she’s] the reason we had a
little bit of a lead,” said Coach Gardner. “It feels good anytime one of your players
gets player of the game.”
