Duchess Park Condors Win First Round against the Westsyde Whundas

Updated: Mar 1, 2018

The Duchess Park Condors kicked off the game with a 7-0 run over the Westsyde Whundas, with Grade 11 wing Rebecca Landry (#8) hitting two 3s to erase the double-zero scoreboard.

Whundas Kinsley Vosper (#13) clapped back with a clutch three late in the first quarter to keep the score within five points, which allowed for Westsyde to come back and stay within 1 point at the end of the first quarter. The first ten minutes were close for both teams, with the Condors slightly up 11-10.

The second quarter proved to be just as close of a game as the first, with both teams handling the ball well and defending when necessary.

Westsyde’s head coach, Jody Vosper, kept his girls fresh as he continuously made subs in the first half. It was the Condors who stayed on top 25-15 heading into the third.

Duchess Park kept their momentum going by continuing to block and hit their rebounds throughout the second half. They led for the entire third quarter by 10-20 points.

The Whundas came into the game as the underdogs, which showed on the scoreboard for most of the game. However, the girls played with passion and attacked well on defense to close out the game.

The Condors destroyed their opponents with a final score of 59-32. Player of the game honours went to Duchess Park’s Sydney Lopez (#10), who soared with four 3s in third and a total of 14 points.
