Carson Graham can’t fly past Sullivan Heights in opening round

Despite out-rebounding Sullivan Heights thoroughly in the game, the Carson Graham Eagles lost their opening round game against the Sullivan Heights Stars.

In the first, Carson Graham started strong and opened a seven point lead which lasted until late in the quarter. However, Sullivan Heights went on a dramatic 7-0 run to tie it, capped off with a steal and score from Joti Khangura.

The second quarter is when Sullivan Heights started to make noise. Back to back corner threes from Joti Khangura gave Sullivan a five point lead, and capped off an eight point run that saw Carson Graham fail to score.

Emma Kramer hit a nice floater late but the Eagles answered with a long distance three to make it 32-28 after the first half

Like the beginning of the first half, the Eagles started strong in the second. They came out on a 10-4 and eventually took a seven point lead. But Sullivan came crawling back, eventually tying it at 41, then 43, and then extending that lead to eight by the end of the third.

The fourth quarter started with a 7-2 Carson Graham run. The Eagles got it to within four twice, and both times Emma Kramer answered with points of her own. Both teams traded baskets until Gisha Sangha made an incredible running hookshot to essentially ice the game with 1:12 left.

Emma and Sophia Kramer finished with 24 and 20 points respectively for Sullivan Heights.

Centre Tanis Metcalfe for Carson Graham had 18 points, and almost as many rebounds with 17. Gabby Channon had 17 rebounds as well for the Eagles.

Sullivan Heights will play tomorrow at 3:15 pm. Carson Graham will play tomorrow at 6:00 pm. Both games will be held on the Langley Events Centre Centre Court.
