Caledonia no match for vaunted Byrne Creek Bulldogs

The Byrne Creek Bulldogs and the Caledonia Kermodes played immediately after a thrilling Richmond vs Argyle showdown, and unfortunately this one didn’t have the same dramatic ending. After Caledonia took a very early lead Byrne Creek showed why they’re one of the favourites to win it all, winning 75-47 on the back of a strong second half.
Caledonia actually came out strong to start, taking a quick lead less than three minutes in. They kept it close after the first quarter, but it was near the end of the second quarter that Byrne Creek started to pull away. They scored 11 straight points and took a 14 point lead heading into the second half. Surprisingly, both Byrne Creek and Caledonia had nearly the same amount of field goal attempts.
The Bulldogs dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Kermodes 29-7 in the frame. Caledonia simply couldn’t deal with Byrne Creek’s speed, especially in transition. The big lead allowed Byrne Creek to rest many of their starters in the fourth, and allowed playing times for the likes of Chidubem Nkoloagu and Daniel Moges to see significant minutes.
Martin Djunga had 21 points to lead Byrne Creek, while teammate Majok Deng had 10 points and seven rebounds. For Caledonia, Solomon Johnson had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Byrne Creek plays tomorrow at 8:15 pm while Caledonia plays at 8:30 am.
