BC Sports Hub Top Girls Players: Playmaker

Who has the best dishes? Who sets up their teammates for great opportunities on a consistent basis?

That was the question posed to you, the fans, in our top five poll. A good playmaker helps elevate the players around them, dishing the ball at just the right opportunity to give them easy buckets — as well as being able to hit their own when the time arises.

The top playmaker as voted on by you was… Deja Lee!

The Semiahmoo guard dazzled fans with her dimes all season, helping the Totems to a provincial championship and an undefeated season. Like any high level pass first guard she knew how to set up her fellow teammates at the right time, how to take her own shots and oh yeah, won provincial MVP.

In fact, the voting wasn’t even close really. 93 of you — 49.7% of respondents — voted for Deja as the top playmaker, close to triple the next highest player.

Here’s what some of the fans had to say:

“She’s a game changer. Brings what the game needs. Plays older than she is.”

“She is a top tier player and better than most already and she is still so young- very talented.”

At the high school level, it takes a special player to be super unselfish and gifted talent wise. Deja is the rare combination of both and we at BC Sports Hub look forward to seeing her play over the next couple of years.

Here’s who else made the top five.

#2 Makenna Gardner, Langley Christian Lightning

Makenna Gardner is poised to be one of the best players in the province next season. A great passer, Makenna and her teammates at Langley Christian should be one of the favourites to win provincials next season.

#3 Hailey Van-Roekel, Langley Christian Lightning

Another Langley Christian Lightning! Hailey has a great shot and is an excellent ball handler, and the future Douglas College Royal is sure to light it up for them next season.

#4 Rylee Seminiuk, Kelowna Owls

As a grade 11, Rylee had a great showing at the provincial championships. Her vision on the court is almost unparalleled with anyone in the province.

#5 Jayden Gill, Robert Bateman Timberwolves

Jayden and the Timberwolves had a great run to the provincial quarters this past season. Next year Jayden will be showing off her playmaking abilities at Trinity Western.
