BC Sports Hub's Girls Top Players: Gritty Player

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

Yes it’s time to reveal the results of the BC Sports Hub Top Players voting, and this year we’ve introduced two big changes. First off we added a Girls list, to help shed light on the amazing talent that’s in the girls game in this province. Why should just the guys get all the honours?

Secondly, this year’s results are 100% fan voted. We just put together the nominations — you, the fans, chose who won each category.

So let’s get started. First off is the Top Gritty Player in the Girls game and she comes from a team that was one of the best all season long.

Yes, the Walnut Grove Gators had a star studded lineup this season (some of whom may be appearing later on, hint hint) but one of their most important pieces may have flown under the radar.

This year’s Top Gritty Player is: Rolande Taylor!

Rolande was a key reason why the Gators finished second in the province this past season. The future Trinity Western Spartan also the clear choice by the fans for this honour — she finished with just over 33% of the votes. Rolande was always one of the hardest working players on the floor, and played with near unlimited hustle that helped elevate her teammates. Her play this year clearly caught the attention of fans, who had plenty of glowing things to say about her.

“She can defend players much bigger and stronger than her” said on respondent. “Her presence on the court is noticed. Provincial final for example: her foul trouble might have been the reason semi was able to claw back into the game.”

A deserving award for an incredibly gritty player like Rolande. Congratulations!

Rest of the Voting

#3 - Liz Kennedy, R.A. McMath Wildcats

#4 - Alanya Davignon, Riverside Rapids
